Brand new out of the Ohana custom shop is this (one of a tenor/baritone pair that we ordered) solid body electric baritone ukulele finished with an incredible figured maple top and emerald green stain.
A first for Ohana, the solid body electric is another huge step forward for their custom shop in the USA and what a way to hit the ground running with this first offering. Piles of thought, style and features have gone into making this beautiful ukulele, with its emerald stained carved maple top it just reeks of class, showing off just enough to warrant the abalone body and headstock binding with the mother of pearl logo. And speaking of the headstock, that complimenting emerald stained maple head cap with the volute is just as eye-catching as the body.
Ohana haven’t just carved up a block of wood, made it pretty and called it a ukulele though, an attention to detail has been put into every aspect of the nitty gritty too, with recessed nobs, handcrafted wooden pickup rings, custom hand wound pickups and a smooth body to neck transition, making it not just fancy, but silky and slick to play. Sound wise it just slaps! So much bigger in sound than its ukulele label, the Ohana solid body electro is a beast of a uke, and somehow Ohana have hit a home run the very first time they’ve stepped to the plate.
The hidden depths to these ukuleles are in the pickups and wiring. Brad; luthier at Ohana USA has hand wound and built the pickups in-house and the wiring includes a hidden push/pull coil tap switch which splits the coil on the humbucker bridge pickup to produce a second single coil pickup. This makes the possibilities on this Ukulele endless and offers something available nowhere else in the ukulele world at this time.
