aNueNue claim the Moon Bird series to be the best ukulele’s they have ever produced, and I am inclined to agree. The addition of a baritone model to the range is most welcome, and consistent with its smaller scale counterparts. Historically, in the ukulele world the addition of a baritone to an already established range can be underwhelming, but the UB200 is quite simply a fantastic instrument, standing shoulder to shoulder with the Hawaiian K brands and other top-end baritones on the market.

There is a reason blue denim jeans or a little black dress never go out of style, they are perfect and timeless. The same can be said for the combination of a spruce top and rosewood back and sides ukulele construction. Standing on this solid foundation, aNueNue have taken a step further with the Moon Bird range, utilising Swiss moon Spruce, harvested according to lunar cycles when the sap is least active, resulting in a drier and stiffer tone wood.

Whether it’s moon magic, placebo, or just great science, this uke sings and sings some more. It’s hard to argue as to whether this further step in the process offers significant benefit, but to be quite frank, it sounds amazing, so I’m saying it does. The lightweight bracing and general construction makes for a feather-light baritone amongst its peers, maintaining its balance with the Gotoh planetary style tuners up top.

All of this lends to the effortless sustain and rounded tone of the UB200, and lest we forget the smooth playability gifted by the variegated ebony fretboard and sheer cutaway. If you are looking for a top tier baritone, then make sure the Moon Bird is on your shortlist, it even comes with a plush lined, aNueNue branded wood-shell case.

Cool fact about the aNueNue Bird Ukuleles - They were designed by a superstar Japanese Luthier called Mitsuta Morihiko who spent more than a year tweaking the shape and bracing for the Birds working back and forth with James Hill, Kalei Gamiao and Kyas. He calls the unique central positioning of the soundhole and top brace the Mount Fuji-voice brace. Its subtle but the Bird' ukes have a unique body shape as well which you don't always spot because of the sheer cutaway design.

This used model is in 8/10 condition, with a few surface scratches from having been played. Besides that it's in fantastic shape and has even been fitted with a Misi acoustic trio picup system, one of the most capeable undersaddle pickups on the market. Shipped in its original hard case, this one is primed and gig ready right out of the case.
