The Rebel never cease to amaze us with the inventiveness of what comes out of their workshop in Thailand. Whenever a batch of their limited edition Q-Series models arrives, it's always exciting to see what newly imagined creations lie within.

For a decade now; Rebel have produced concept instruments in extremely limited numbers. These instruments are all unique with underlying themes such as changing one wood combination or the position of a soundhole. The never ending search for improvements in the sound and feel of a ukulele is a big mission of Rebel's.

The Oppon tenor ukulele has indeed lived up to our high expectations, taking general conventions and literally turning them upside down. Switching the traditions of combining bright spruce for the soundboard and mango for the back and sides, the innovators at The Rebel have re-arranged the configuration for the Oppon with beautifully sweet and stunning mango for the front and sides with a bright, snappy and eye catching spruce back. Aesthetically this lovely soprano doesn't stand out immediately, but once you've discovered the pleasant surprise of the spruce back it's very hard to look away.

This re-shuffling of ideas has brought us a wonderfully dynamic tenor that projects the bright tones of spruce forward through a sweet and mellow mango chamber to give us a sound we've never really heard here in the store. The Rebel haven't just switched around the top back and sides however for the Oppon. Premium features include front and back rosewood binding, an all important personal sound-port for an improved playing experience and a marrango wood neck.

They have still of course included features we have come to know and love from The Rebel. The high gloss finish, the hard ebony head plate with The Rebel's famous geometric wooden bird logo inlayed and contrasting triangular fretboard markers tether us to the roots of what we love about The Rebel in the first place, with the new and exciting additions shining a hopeful and eagerly anticipated future for what they will dream up next.
