The uBass market has become ever more competitive from brands the world over. To make a stand out bass ukulele now, you've got to have something really special. That's what Kala are offering us with the SB-TB-FL model. Kala's first foray into an affordable fretless bass in nearly 10 years.

Pulling inspiration from the original California Series uBass, the SB-TB-FL is a whole new take on the uBass from Kala. It features a sleek off-set body shape which is contoured for balance and comfort set off by the gloss tobacco burst finish. The 23.5" scale gives you plenty of room to enjoy the fretless shenanigans but it is still compact enough to easily travel with. The tone is thick and meaty thanks to the classic passive split-coil pickup.

The tuning is the same as a standard bass guitar or ukulele bass in EADG and it utilises traditional roundwound bass strings for a short scale. In the hand the tension feels sharp and immediate which is often missing from ukulele basses, and the addition of an easily accessible spoke wheel trussrod adjuster is a welcome feature. We are really impressed with the latest uBass offering from Kala, it even comes with a padded gigbag.
