So many great ideas started by building on perfection.. It is fair to say that re-imagining the ukulele is a brave task!
Romero Creations deserve a pat on the back for taking the traditional style and building design of the ukulele back to the drawing board. They've compressed and reworked some of the instruments' key components to work in our modern day 'space saving' lives.
The STC concert model is a version of the popular
tiny tenor. It's everything you want from a concert in feel but reduced in length and build to fit into spaces too tight for your average ukulele. The reduction at the headstock gives the illusion of more space at the top of the neck. The topsy-turvy body design will probably not be to every players taste however, those that like pineapple ukuleles with the Ditson like tightness in the bass will agree that this ukulele has a fantastically clean and honest sound.
The mango models are beautifully mellow with a little bit less bite than the koa model in their output. In the same vein as Japanese made ukuleles like Kiwaya and Takumi; this range of Vietnamese made Romero instruments have a relaxed nature. They would be perfect for somebody looking to play sleepy melodies to themselves with all the nuance and precision normally associated with a louder instrument.
Some small pits in the finish are to be expected, owing to the fact that no grain filler is used before the gloss finish is applied. Pictures show actual instrument.
