Kala Revelator Midnight Owl Tenor - Salt And Pepper Mahogany Tenor Ukulele w/Gigbag PREORDER

The photo in the listing is of the final factory prototype with the ukes now ready to leave the factory. The first shipment is due in the UK at the end of April 2026. 

The Kala Revelator needs no introduction... a former uke of the year at SUS and an instrument we have been associated with since Pete Howlett first played with his CNC  machine around 2017! We even handed Kala owner Mike Upton one of Petes earliest Revelators at the Grand Northern Ukulele Festival which eventually led to Kala taking this design and making it bigger and better than any of us could have anticipated at the time.

The Revelator is available in three tiers from Kala as of 2026; a USA custom shop selection made with one off select tonewoods finished in Petaluma, California, a Nautilus soundhole model known as the Horizon is manufactured by a small team in Java, Indonesia and then finally; for the masses, the hobbyists and the budding players; Kala make the Night Owl. 
The Night Owl was initially available in Mango and Acacia but we were keen to find an alternative that more closely matched the sound of the Korina models Pete made us right back at the beginning of this adventure. Mahogany is the perfect candidate for that and we decided to make full use of Kala's fantastic salt and pepper dog hair finish by making the first 'themed' Kala Revelator series.

The Midnight Owl was over a year in development and is a solid Mahogany tone machine! A Mahogany three piece back with the central piece running up the length of the instrument creating a thru-neck; the Midnight Owl is resonant, full bodied despite its slim size and we believe it does something different to the Acacia/Mango Night Owls that are already sought after and well received.

The Salt and Pepper dog hair finish was originally used by Texas Guitar Custom Shop Collings in the late 1990's. Kala adopted this on some Petaluma made custom instruments in the 2010's which SUS were the exclusive European dealer for. We loved that finish and have been so impressed with the way this is replicated on more affordable instruments Kala produce now. The effect is quite time consuming as it involves sanding back and grain filling and dying an instrument multiple times to create that texture and mixture of contrasting colours.

Above is a crude sound sample of Alex playing the prototype. We have also toyed with it on our social media SUS Friday Jams. This is a great slimline ukulele, with a pickup and a wide nut - ticking off many of the boxes and things you folks ask us for. We always listen!

Please note; the photos show the prototype and the final model will have the Midnight Owl logo stamped into the Oval soundhole as per other Revelator instruments.
