SUS Takeover Event - 7th June 2025 - 4 acts/3 workshops 12pm start

The fourth SUS Takeover event in the Absolute Music Centre is firmed up! We cannot wait to bring three more of the UK's best ukulele acts to our home inside the Absolute Music Centre. 

A 4 act bill with 3 workshops suitable for beginners/intermediate ukulele players. Absolute beginners would get something out of these workshops but knowledge of the basic chords and strums will definitely help.

This event is sponsored by Kala UK and special offers will be available on all Kala Ukuleles on the day. With a special appearance from Kala UK's main man Geraint Morgan. 

Lester T Web
Lester is one of those classic troubadour characters. Performing a mixture of the blues, traditional jazz pieces and spinning in stories along the way; we are delighted to invite one of Kala's newest artists to SUS to perform for you all. 

Lester will be teaching a workshop called 'Easy Wins' which focuses on overcoming stage fright, focusing on mic technique and the building blocks needed to perform for an audience without fear.

Ukulele Simon
Simon is breaking down all of the barriers of what a ukulele is and can be. Many of his festival appearances across the globe have gone viral as his full stage show consists of drum machines, live looping and a quite literal highlight package of classic rave and house music performed using the ukulele. If you sprinkled some distilled James Hill into a mixing bowl with Happy Mondays and a touch of the flamenco; you would have Ukulele Simon. An artist Kala were extremely proud to add to the stable early in 2025. We can't wait to have him perform a stripped back set and teach a workshop on different rhythms and strum techniques from around the world 'breaking out the island strum'. 

Opera-lele
It feels so good after 10 years to see Opera-Lele return to Southern Ukulele Store. One of the mainstays on the UK touring circuit throughout the 2010's Mandy and George do exactly as the name suggests; fusing opera and ukulele with a fantastic routine that requires audience participation and a sense of adventure. One of our favourite acts to have worked with; we are delighted to welcome them back to perform at this event.

We have been asked hundreds of times over the years whether Phil could teach some of his incredible blues techniques and he has agreed to lead a workshop on 'Ukulele Blues'.

SUS Friday Jam Band
Back by popular demand (and to keep the costs down); Alex, Romeo and Phil will be performing a selection of their favourite songs from our popular social media 'Friday Jams'. 

So there you have it - 4 Acts, 3 Workshops spanning approximately 7 hours. Bring your ukulele, we are limited on music stands so please do bring your own if you have one. Please note; we will not be offering an open mic at this event but hope to resume these at our next event in September.
