Made famous by George Formby in the 1930-40s (and more recently given prominent use by the likes of George Harrison and Brian May), the four-stringed ukulele banjo – often nicknamed the 'banjolele' – is known for its small banjo-type body and a fretted ukulele-style neck. You'll generally achieve more volume playing a banjo uke than you would a standard ukulele, although the overall scale, tuning and playing experience is not dissimilar. A great choice for those looking to branch out and explore some subtly different sounds.
