The Kanile'a K-1 baritone is the quintessential Hawaiian koa baritone ukulele. A ukulele lacking bling or ornate and expensive decoration that puts its entire focus onto putting good wood together to make a light, resonant and expressive ukulele. The K-1 is available in 3 forms nowadays with this model being 'Natural'. The koa is glossed with a thin ultraviolet satin finish giving the wood space to breathe whilst protecting it from the elements. Select instrument grade Hawaiian koa from Kanile'a's oahu wood store is chosen and the ukuleles just sing. 

If you buy your ukes based on sound and want a little vibey vibe to your uke with some traditional looks but modern build techniques then the Natural series is sure to appeal. The Natural series features Kanile'a's famous TRU-R bracing; the braces have triangular cuts through them to reduce weight whilst making contact with the top only at small strategic areas. 

I have been playing ukulele for 20 years; I have never found a ukulele brand that make the perfect baritone ukulele as consistently as Kanile'a. They perfected the baritone ukulele before the ukulele world even realised they were cool!

Everything on the bodies is designed to maximise vibrations. The new TRU-R bracing is extremely stiff and touches only those parts of the top which require the support, which allows more areas of the top to vibrate for longer. The internal binding to the top and back is as minimal as possible without compromising structural integrity, and the wood is very carefully selected for the correct grain properties which allows the soundwaves to be created. And everything is put together by master craftsmen, who love what they do, and this shows.

All this attention to detail results in a huge but crystal clear and balanced sound, endless sustain and very pretty and complex harmonics in the sound. You really can do everything on a Kanile'a!

This model, the K-1 B in Natural satin finish, is fabulously rich and open sounding, with a truly deep and "baritone" sounding voice. Compared to the gloss models, this has a warmer and mellower edge to the sound that some players will prefer.
