Flight Iris Tinta All Solid Mahogany Tenor Ukulele Trans Blue w/gigbag
Derivative of the highly popular Flight Nighthawk model, when the Iris first arrived at the Southern Ukulele Store it solidified its position as the most affordable alternative to the mid-intermediate range Flight ukuleles. Since then it has been a part of the foundation that gave birth to the supremely popular Carabao lite models.
This newest re-imagining of the Iris silhouette has joined the ranks of the all solid mahogany market in style, offering a multitude of scale lengths and stained colourways, in this instance a tenor model with a crisply applied translucent blue. As we all know, mahogany can be little muddy when applied to the full top back and sides, so the use of a high gloss finish not only adds a shine to the finish, but the sound as well, tightening the mids and brightening the brooding mahogany a touch. The result is a handsome looking and well balanced tenor ukulele.
There's a few small details as an added bonus when considering the Tinta models. The addition of the turquoise style rosette which is also mirrored in the offset fretboard dots is a premium touch that accents the Tinta beautifully, without stealing the show away from the stain itself, "complimentary" is the most appropriate term we would say. It's not all aesthetic however, Flight have of course included the ever important 38mm nut width to the tenor models as well as a satin finished neck for a smoother playing experience and upgraded to their lighter weight bracing adding way more sustain than you might expect, usually reserved for their higher end models.
All in all we are really impressed with the new Iris Tintas. They're a fantastic all solid mahogany option at an affordable price with some nice premium features added for good measure, and even include a Flight branded gigbag.
