We're big fans of the KA-JTE-KZGD Kala archtop tenor ukulele. Designed primarily as an electro acoustic stage tenor uke, these handsome beasts look and sound the part plugged in. Acoustically, owing to the laminate woods used, they lack a little of the brilliance and projection that can be achieved with a solid top. Nonetheless, the sound that they make is sweet and balanced.

Now for the boring bit. The laminate woods are put under tension in the arched back and top. This helps to wring the last bit of volume and projection from the body of the instrument. So, this clever bit of design ensures your get the maximum bang for your buck. Bear in mind that a carved solid arched top arched instrument would set you back hundreds if not thousands of pounds more.
