Ohana BK20 'Vintage New York Style' Solid Mahogany Top Baritone Ukulele
The Baritone Ukulele has a unique history in that its earliest roots developed from Tenor Guitar and Tenor Banjo players rather than the tropical islands of Hawaii. In the 1950's two different companies in New York and Boston developed and patented designs for a Baritone Ukulele. Favilla based in New York built a Baritone Ukulele widely considered the first Baritone with a 19'' scale length, a body shape that more closely resembled a scaled up ukulele than guitar and Ohana have always remained faithful to this lesser known style of build when developing Baritone instruments.
Lots of little things add up to significant tonal advantages on the BK-20. The solid Mahogany top is going to open up a touch over time to provide more and more sustain the more you strum. You'll also benefit from some style points with the sound-hole rosette and that vintage style binding framing the dark mahogany nicely. This classic style baritone is warm, welcoming and well put together. At just above entry level, this is a great choice to dip your toes into the Baritone world without being limited by quality down the line.
Listing shows a typical example of the ukulele you will receive. These Ohana's are nice and consitent.
