KoAloha's koa Pikake soprano is a seriously beautiful ukulele. It combines effortless playability with bags of tone, projection and stunning natural looks. Their clever internal bracing allows the top to vibrate for longer and harder. That means more volume and sustain, which are hard to achieve at soprano ukulele scale.
This soprano model, the Pikake, has a satin finish, which allows the sound to be a little more open and a little mellower than its glossed sister, the KSM-00. Whilst retaining all of the bombast and vitality in the sound, the Pikake just has the brighter edges smoothed off, sounding a little dreamier and floatier.
KoAloha use no grain filler before applying the satin finish. This allows the instrument to sound as amazing as it does, but it does mean that you have to expect small cosmetic anomalies and flaws, where features and grain in the wood show through the finish.
