When aNueNue build something special, they really love to go for it, and the black whale tenor is no exception to this rule.

It’s hard to know where to begin with this stunning tenor ukulele as it is brimming with features and finesse. It features a double top, not to be confused with a laminate top, comprised of western red cedar sandwiched with a stained and stunning curly black maple cap. This combination of tone woods crescendo in a symphony of sound with all the immediacy and sustain of the cedar, sweet subtlety of the maple sat atop the well rounded East Indian rosewood back and sides. I know it sounds like I’m over selling this instrument, but to be very clear, I don’t feel as though I can do it justice with mere mortal words.

Visually this ukulele stands out even amongst many other already embellished instruments on the wall here, designed for performer and teacher Ryu Kyas of Japan. I really don’t know which part to crush on more, the flaming of the maple top, the beautiful mother of pearl, abalone, maple and turquoise stone headstock inlay and sound-hole rosette, the intricate and innovative whale fretboard markers or the ebony and maple whale tail footing the soundboard, the more you look the more and more you see. Despite being dipped in design features it all ties together so nicely, pushing the boat a long way out without losing it to the depths of the design ocean. It comes complete with an aNueNue woodshell case.
