Preowned John Kinnard Solid Cedar/Mahogany Concert Ukulele w/hard case
Please note that this Used model is available for purchase by UK based customers only.
Residing in the small villiage of Fallbrook, California, in the foothills of northern San Diego County, John Kinnard builds some of the worlds finest truly hand made string instruments. He prides himself on working with his hands, avoiding "cookie cutter" use of CNC machines to bring to life instruments with care, devotion and attention boasting a career that spans more than 50 years.
We got in conctact with Kinnard Ukuleles to ask the man himself about the spec of this particulary ukulele, so as to be sure we could pass on as much information to you as possible. Originally a custom build from Johns shop, it is a rare model with no headstock branding and a striking, sharp and simple ebony face plate. Kevin, our new friend at Kinnard informed us that this was built in 2016, so would have fan bracing instead of the x-bracing system that John currently favours. The top is a dark stained solid cedar with all solid mahogany back and sides, a winning combo in my books with those crisp and clear cedar highs pulled in a filled out by the rich low registers of mahogany. It also features a mahogany neck, and ebony fretboard and bridge and really nice dark tortoise shell binding.
Hardwear wise, this one has also been fitted with the always reliable Gotoh Planetary tuners. They are ultra precise, well built but still have that vintage style, lovely.
With regards to condition, lets be honest, you can see from the pictures it has been played and played and played some more with many scratches and two knocks, one on the neck and one on the headstock. We have tried our best to show these in the images. Some big ticks in the "pro's" column however are it sounds fantastic having opened up beautifully. It has also been fitted with a passive K&K pick-up which sounds equally fantastic. It also comes shipped in a woodshell case for all your transportation needs.
All in all this is a charming little concert from a devoted builder with bags of character. If you're something unique, well made and well played then this John Kinnard Concert should certainly be considered.
