Pono MTSH-C-PC All Solid Cedar Top Pro-Classic Tenor Ukulele free case

£899.00 £749.17
This is a fabulously refined model from the Pono Pro-Classic range. As you would expect from Pono, the design, build quality and finish are all superb. This is certainly one of the best instruments currently being made in the east.

Solid Cedar and Mahogany is a well loved Classical Guitarists combination of woods, Cedar offers incredible clarity and definition between the different strings and unsurprisingly make a very confident, vibrant and rounded sound. For those comparing the Cedar and Spruce models - you will find the Spruce to be the more forward of the two, loud when played with some force with less sustain that many Ukulele woods. The Cedar model has crispness and is a little more softly softly in its approach with a much sweeter sustain for a player with some dynamics. Both the Cedar and Spruce models sound accentuated towards brightness at the top end of the register. That is not to say that the lower register is denuded in any way, quite the opposite - you find a very beautiful kind of twang in the bottom end when you pluck or strum hard, which will be familiar to flamenco guitarists. When picked you appreciate the clarity and sustain, when strummed quietly you appreciate the note definition and when strummed hard you appreciate the headroom and volume that you can achieve.

About the Pono line: The “Pono” line is made by Ko’olau one of the oldest and most traditional Hawaiian ukulele manufacturers. Ko’olau’s goal throughout the years has been to provide the highest quality stringed instruments available with a high standard of craftsmanship. And besides methods of construction to optimize tone and volume, they stress the importance of cosmetic beauty. It is of interest to note that only the finest grades of quartersawn hardwoods, such as Acacia, Mahogany, Rosewood, and Ebony are selected for Pono instruments. However, only 20% pass the stringent requirements of density, grain patterns, flexibility, and cosmetic aesthetics. This is virtually unknown, especially in the Asian import market. We are proud of the fact that all of the Pono instruments are made of solid woods.
