About Peter
Peter Luongo is the founder and former Musical Director of The Langley Ukulele Ensemble. The ensemble became internationally renowned under his tutelage and performed throughout North America, in Japan, and annually at the Sheraton Waikiki Resort in Hawaii. Peter's work was featured as the focal point of the award-winning documentary film, The Mighty Uke.
After retirement from his role as a teacher and administrator in the Langley School District, Peter turned his passion for teaching ukulele to working with adult learners. He shares his 40-years of experience and expertise as a professional ukulele teacher at festivals around the world. He also continues to lead adult performing ensembles.
About the LUE
The Legacy Ukulele Ensemble is a group of adult players from across the United States and Canada who are directed and led by internationally acclaimed ukulele teacher, Peter Luongo. The ensemble is committed to learning/developing their music literacy and ukulele playing skills with the goal of performing and sharing their music with audiences.
The group’s participants live in various cities throughout the U.S. and Canada and are committed to meeting regularly on-line or in person in various strategic geographic locations for their learning sessions. During these 3 to 4-day sessions the members work intensively on refining and adding to their repertoire list (currently 40+ pieces and continually growing) where each session culminates with at least one public performance for various ukulele communities/organizations. Follow up resources (videos and supporting materials) are sent for the members to use as they rehearse between sessions and individuals rely on regular on-line support to assist them.
The group's repertoire list includes music from the genres of Hawaiian, Classical, Folk, Rock, and Country, all of which are performed from memory on stage. Yes, you read that right…..everything is memorized and there is not a music stand in sight.
The Legacy Ukulele Ensemble’s mandate is to model life-long learning! The members are committed to developing their music-literacy and musicianship while learning to play the ukulele and developing their choral singing and close harmony skills. They hope to inspire adults to embrace life-long learning as they continue to evolve as musicians and performers. Simply put, you are never too old to be a musician!
Peter and his orchestra will be in town as part of a small tour taking place in the lead up to the Ukulele Festival of Great Britain.
