OulCraft Custom Cedar/Macassar Ebony Baritone Ukulele w/Hard Case #122

OulCraft are undeniably one of the world's leading customs shops right now. Whatever crazy ukulele related dream we have; Jungtae and Seoyoon Na seem to be able to make it a reality and in many cases even better than the original dream.

This has never been more evident than in the baritone ukuleles we have received from OulCraft so far. Number 122 is only the second baritone we have received from OulCraft but it somehow raises my future expectations over what a baritone can be.

If you are a fan of Kamaka or Kanile'a baritones then you will love the feel and sound that the OulCraft produces. The combination of cedar and macassar ebony makes for a clear, confident and lyrical sound. If you play fingerstyle or pick out single notes then I dare you to find a better baritone ukuleles in the 60+ year history of this type of instrument.

The cosmetic detail on this ukulele is otherworldy too with a custom rosette designed by Seoyoon Na and brought to life by Jungtae. The fret dots reflect the rosette too...

Speaking of the fretboard; this fretboard is one of the first we have come across made of royal blackwood which is an artificially aged purple heart wood. It gives it the strength and tonality of ebony but with the flexibility that it feels soft on the fingers. We love it!

Anybody who has ever tried to explain the difference between a high end baritone and a classical guitar often stumble because the best instruments share many of the same similarities. The wood combination of this ukulele has a crisp/flamenco edge and yet when you hold back slightly or play quietly for yourself, this OulCraft really lets you know its a ukulele with a sweetness and poise you simply don't get from 99.9% of the other baritones out there and even fewer guitars... I think what I am trying to say is that this is the ultimate baritone player's ukulele. It is a dream on the eyes and ears and somehow even lures you in with your other senses.
