'Oli L2-TTSMR All Solid Torrefied Spruce/Myrtle Tenor Gloss Ukulele w/hard Case

The L2-TTSM tenor ukulele is part of 'Oli's 3rd tier of instruments. Aimed at intermediate/professional musicians this ukulele is light in the hands, resonant and with incredible sustain and colour to the sound. This limited model features a wonderfully scientific torrefied spruce top with stunning myrtle back and sides.

Andrew Kitakis along with his famous team at Ukulele Site in Hawaii have been designing and refining the range of ukuleles for several years already. Present company included; there is really nobody more in tune with what makes a good ukulele that players can bond with. 

So, torrefied spruce, what is that? If you haven't yet come across torrefaction, in a nut shell it is a process in which the wood used for the soundboard of the instrument is essentially cooked at high temperatures (200°C-300°C) in a low oxygen environment to remove moisture and volatile compounds, converting the biomass into a brittle, energy-dense material. With regards to tone-woods, this 'artificially', for want of a better, term, ages the wood, pre-opening up the potential for vibrations and that all important tone.

Pair this torrefied spruce with that beautiful myrtle and you have something pretty special. Myrtle combines the clear, bright highs of maple with the rich warmth of mahogany and the deep chime of rosewood, making it an incredibly well-rounded addition to an already impressive tenor.

The playability choices and aesthetic details of the L2 series are worth discussing. The satin C shaped neck for examle contours beautifully to the hand, offering smooth movement up and down the fretboard with a modern wide 37mm nut and nice wide string spacing. We see roewood binding with an arm bevel for comfort and those all important wrap-around fret markers for easy navigation. The tuners are Gotoh Planetarys, which are commonly seen as being the top Ukulele tuner out there. They weigh nothing which balances the instrument better and allows the wood to vibrate freely.
