Kala's 20th anniversary release brought us a handful of seriously special instruments, designed to celebrate the past, present and future of Kala ukuleles. Paying hommage to the traditions of a classic figure 8 soprano, the F8D-S soprano model was (in some circles) the crown jewel of the 20th anniversary models.

It is no surprise then that we have a brand new soprano modelled on the F8D-S, featuring the same silhouette and many other similar features but with one major difference. The new Kala F8D-KMH-S Pan Pacific Figure 8 still features that stunning figured Koa top, traditional nunes style binding and soundhole rosette, flush to body fretboard and planetary tuners. The big difference however is the use of solid mahogany for the back and sides, offering a slighty warmer, more mid heavy timbre as you would expect from mahogany. The rebalance is actually really pleasant, filling out the mid range without muddying the sweet highs of the Koa.

We're thrilled to see that kala kept the awesomely cool headstock emblem, giving a nod to Kala’s Petaluma home which is also mirrored on the newly updated gigbag included! The Figure 8 models have totally encapsulated the feeling of early ukuleles, with this latest iteration continuing the momentum started by the 20th anniversary model, perpetuating cycle of ukuleles to be discovered in a hundred years time that remind us where it all started.
