We know we know, it's not a ukulele. Don't worry we are and always will be first and foremost a ukulele store, however, with how brilliant Flight ukuleles are, we couldn't not take a look at their Pixi travel guitars.

Anatomically we're looking at a solid spruce top and laminate mahogany back and sides. For those of you who haven't ventured out of the ukulele world, what applies to an acoustic uke with regards to tone-wood generally applies to an acoustic guitar. Snappy spruce brings clarity, brightness and shine to the tops with the mahogany back and sides bringing in balance and poise to the mids and lows for a well rounded and pleasant timbre.

The short scale of these guitars is ultra handy for campfire folks, travellers, space savers and transient wanderers. To put it into context, a typical acoustic guitar scale is around 650mm, the Flight Maia baritone is 510mm, and this little beauty sits in a sweet spot between the two at 596mm.

There's a laundry list of great features as you would expect from a Flight instrument with the Pixi Travel series. First and foremost is value. Much like the Flight ukulele range you are getting lots of bang fo your buck, with Flight including a rosewood fingerboard and bridge, bone nut and saddle, open pore satin finish, abs binding. We're particularly fond of the maple wraparound fret markers that we've seen before in Flight ukes, the bound fretboard also adds a touch of class to an affordable acoustic.

It's also worth mentioning the headstock, which is reflective of many of Flight's Royal series ukes; Comets, Songbirds, Fireballs etc. The weight this saves on a ukulele is good, on a travel guitar its great! It cuts down weight yes, but it also looks awesome, and of course is tightened up with black and gold finish Ning-hong Tuners.

We're trilled to offer the Flight Pixi travel guitars amongst our roster. Beyond being a travel guitar, they are also a sweet short scale addition to consider in ones collection, either bridging the gap for a baritone player looking to take steps towards a guitar, or vice versa. Shipped in a padded and practical gigbag, it's a travellers package ready to go!
