Here we have an all solid Hawaiian Koa soprano uke, with a lower than expected price tag. All Big Island acoustic ukes are half made in Hawaii: the wood is milled and prepared in Hawaii, then shipped to a specialist factory in Vietnam for assembly. The quality is excellent, definitely a step up from what you expect to find from most Chinese factories.
Look past the stunning Koa, and super cool design features like the Honu (turtle) bridge and the beautiful headstock, and you quickly realise what a players instrument this is. Fair enough, the visual Hawaiian mojo is important, but not as important as the sound - which is precise, vibrant and rich, and just plain excellent all round - and the feel in the hand, which is equally as impressive.
With a high gloss finish, this uke will have a lot of opening up to do, so expect it to sound better and better the more that is played. I'll be sorry to see it go!
