USED Pete Howlett Solid Koa Tenor Ukulele Matt finish - Legacy series #88118

Pete's work needs very little introduction these days. He is making some of the finest ukuleles from some of the best materials in his workshop with a view of Snowdon in Wales. This one is built from solid Koa from the Big Island of Hawaii with a Matt cellulose finish - a combination that allows the full depth and complexity in the sound of the Koa to come through. 

This ukulele sounds and feels as good as it looks. Pete has the knack of making necks feel so comfortable in the hand in all positions, it just invites the player to get stuck in. Even in extreme positions at the dusty end, it responds with a lustrous and full response, with no drop in sustain or volume and impressive intonation. This is a trick that is very, very hard to pull off, and can only be achieved by experienced, skilled builders at the top of their game. Those in the know can also appreciate that Pete does not make instruments in this style anymore preferring to work on his newer Revelator designs and super duper ornate high end models.

Why would anyone trade it in? This instrument was traded in as part of a trio of Howletts from a collector that fancied a change. The instrument is in excellent condition with only a few surface scratches that may have even been there when the instrument left Pete's workshop. It's rare and it's lovely - I would be very surprised if we see another one in the near future.
