The Revelator is something of a legend... The product of Pete Howlett's exhaustive struggle to innovate and perfect his craft of Ukulele making; The Revelator is a thin body Ukulele with offset soundhole. It's sleek aesthetics just glow at you when looking at the Uke and it's purpose is two-fold, it can be plugged in and provide a top notch amplified Ukulele tone with a more natural body fit or it can be played unplugged to produce a sweet and full bodied Ukulele sound.

This Revelator, was manufactured in late 2019 so is just a baby and virtually unplayed...

Why would someone trade it in? Well this Revelator available now arrived as part of a trio of Pete Howlett part exchanges from a collector fancying a change in style. This is incredibly special and in fantastic 9/10 condition... Pete's 'Deacon' model has some 'blingy' Tortoise shell front binding on a gorgeous Pencil Cedar top. The body is made of a light, resonant single block of high grade Korina. Unusual, not really! Pete took influence for this from traditional South American instruments.

There are so many clever building decisions behind the Revelator that it's hard to know what to mention and what to leave to the players imagination but, the sound hole placement and whats 'under the hood' was particularly noteworthy to us when following the creation of this instrument. By experimenting with soundhole placement and shape, Pete could more effectively create a tornavuz system to stiffen the top and increase the bass response as well as the overall volume. Abandoning traditional bracing in favour of this style of build is the not so secret weapon that gives the Revelator such a full sound despite it's petit body depth.

The pencil Cedar top is fantastic giving the instrument a real liveliness that defys the logic of the lightweight smaller body. This instrument is a joy to play, a joy to listen to and a joy to discover.

For more information on the Revelator, we highly recommending searching back through Pete Howlett's Facebook group where he has documented the design and various building decisions made nearly every day for the past 8-9 months. It's a fascinating journey and worth a bit of exploring if you like the idea of getting the full picture on what brought this instrument to life.
