Here we have a Kiwaya KTS-4 soprano serial no 1495, which is fitted with the geared planetary Gotoh tuners. The fretboard is Ebony but the bridge is Rosewood, which dates it to round about the time when they started to change to Ebony around 3 years ago. They obviously had a few more Rosewood bridges than fretboards to work through!
It displays none of the glossy "polishing up" that normally happens to the matte finish when these are played regularly and vigorously, but it does have some small dinks - I have counted 4 -, one on the side (underneath for a right hander), one on the binding to the top (right on the seam of the bottom bout), one on the back, and one one on the faceplate of the headstock. Nothing big enough to show up successfully in photographs, sadly. So, the condition has to be 8/10 - but the good news is that the top could literally pass as new.
I think that this one still sounds a little bit tight, and has not had the play hours necessary to really open up yet, and sound as luscious as we know that they always do when played in. So there is plenty more life left to live in this one!
