We're thrilled to welcome this stunning Kanile'a tenor ukulele to the family! One of our all time favourite custom model ukuleles from Kanile'a is back again and we were delighted Kanile'a had enough Myrtle left to make another...

This tenor ukulele was spec'd out by me when discussing with Kaimana at Kanile'a what my dream uke would be. We discussed the things I loved that Kanile'a did already and some other influences that I hadn't seen the larger Hawaiian companies use on mainstream models.

Firstly, the torrefied spruce top idea came from the 2017 platinum model that arguably is the best sounding concert body ukulele I have ever heard or played. I have lusted after hearing it on a tenor ever since. It looks textured and complex and has wisdom and depth whatever angle you look at it and the sound reflects that.

The torrefication process simulates years and years of molecular changes that an instrument will experience by baking the wood and the result not only looks tasty but the wood is responsive like nothing else. To make something with a top this good you would have to buy an old 1930's Martin guitar and cut the top off and cut it down to shape for your ukulele!

I can't imagine too many people going down that route when this torrefied spruce is there ready to do the job just as well. You can't put a price on the piece of mind and reliability you only get from a new instrument with modern manufacturing processes like Kanile'a.

The back and sides look like nothing else. I have long been a fan of Kim Breedlove's acoustic guitars - especially the look and tone of myrtle. I have seen other ukulele builders use it in small numbers but not a company like Kanile'a that would utilise the UV gloss to really bring the eccentricities out in the wood.

This uke has a lot of sustain, volume and a unique personality that wouldn't sound out of place with any type of player - heavy strummer or light picker - this uke has so much to give. That front, back and sides wood combination is an absolute game changer. We are absolutely blown away.
