Ukes With Alex - Custom Nylon Tenor/Baritone High D Reentrant dGBE Ukulele Strings
Many of you asked me to put this set into production after hearing it on the Flight A10 in our Top 10 Ukuleles of 2021 video and it took me a while but here we are! As set of tenor/baritone reentrant dGBE strings for high D baritone tuned ukulele.
The clear nylon mono filament strings are refined, designed and built in the UK by Rotosound. These strings were designed as a hard tension reentrant dGBE string for baritone ukulele and work wonders when used for this purpose but they also work as a light tension high D dGBE set on 17'' tenor scale ukuleles.
These strings are slightly thicker, harder and less stretchy than the long established clear nylon ukulele strings on the market. The set contains 3 monofilament nylon strings with a silverwound nylon core 3rd string for the G and offer a balanced, thick and sweet tone. A traditional style of uke string with a modern approach to string tension and manufacturing.
The ukulele market is flooded with string combinations that promise to make your uke darker, lighter, brighter, warmer, mellower and everything in between. The choice is at best spellbinding and at worst confusing. However, when you really examine it almost all ukulele strings are made from nylgut, clear or dark fluorocarbon and black or clear nylon and many of these strings do not differ greatly in gauge or texture from one manufacturer to the next.
For years I used fluorocarbon strings for fingerpicking because they required very little stretching after fitting and produced a clean, accurate note. Sure this is perfect for lots of strummers or virtuoso classical style players but the lack of stretch and elasticity can rob your instrument of a bit of depth and personality.
The right clear nylon string may take a bit of time to settle on an instrument but when it does, the bright notes sound clean and open and the deeper, richer notes are full of colour and flavour. This refined string is now long established as one of SUS's most popular Concert and Tenor strings and this set is a positive step in the right direction for Baritone players.
I experimented with half a dozen of the most popular nylon strings on the market before working with UK manufacturer Rotosound to produce slightly chunkier, harder nylon treble strings. I spent months trying different types of nylon and strings of varying density before settling on this combination.
