Quite simply, this is astonishing! Such a responsive, expressive instrument. One of those were we all drop everything and crowd round for a look and a listen.
Like the aNueNue Moonbird, it has a solid Spruce top married to a solid Rosewood back and sides. It is this combination of woods which allows this uke to speak as it does. Spruce has a fabulous frequency response, right from the bass to upper treble register, whilst Rosewood helps to focus and tighten the sound, adding crispness to the tone, and helping the volume and response of the instrument. Simply put - the best lightweight and stiff ukuleles only need a light tickling to come alive, and this is one of those.
The aesthetics may not please everyone, but close up the soundholes with their very pretty Turquoise edging, and the Maple inlay around the sides really come alive and make this achingly beautiful. Taking a microscope to the surface, you will notice that no grain filler has been used, so the gloss is applied over open pore wood; inevitably, this will result in a few tiny areas where the finish has sunk into the grain or a larger pore, but the lack of grain filler is one of the principal reasons why these sound as amazing as they do.
