The Rebel Double Cheese super concert ukulele is absolutely wonderful. The solid spruce top with mahogany back and sides, and part of what makes this ukulele stand out is the simplicity. The Double Cheese has no binding or fancy cosmetic detail except for the geometric-esque fret dots. You are paying for a well finished ukulele made of good select woods with good hardware and one strum really brings that home. This ukulele is loud and clear without being too ferocious like some spruce top ukuleles.
tenor neck on concert body gives the instrument a very unique voicing too. The meaty sustain of each note is apparent and accentuated by the thicker conventional depth body (the Cheesecake is the slimline model in the range). That concert body goes a long way in focusing the attack and release of each note in a way that would probably be a bit too boomy on a normal tenor.
Phil and I fell madly in love with
The Rebel at the 2019 NAMM show and we were delighted to be able to share The Rebel experience with our colleagues and customers when opening the delivery for the first time. There isn't a bad or mediocre ukulele in the range - just well made ukes you will want to play every time you open the bag.
Sure, the bag is a bit flamboyant and won't be to everyone's taste - but at least you'll always know where you put your Rebel!
