This is one of those instruments that genuinely stops people in their tracks - as we unboxed it, tuned it and strummed it, staff and customers alike turned their heads and coo'd longingly. Adam, who had the honour of the first play, said that "it is to your ears what caramel is to your taste buds", and I would tend to agree. The finest, smoothest caramel known to mankind.

As you would expect from an instrument made in Japan, it is built with exacting standards of precision by master craftsmen, using the finest Mahogany, which is not only beautiful to look at but also very tightly grained and textured, which guarantees the best sort of tonal response. The tone is very soulful and sophisticated - the fundamentals ring with long and warm sustain, with very pretty transient harmonics filling out the sound. Picked melodies sound crisp, but each note resonates with that lovely sustain, and it never sounds lacklustre or thin; and when strummed you notice a huge dynamic range, the volume increasing when required with no sense of distortion or running out of headroom, all the while sounding composed and full, each note in the chord as prominent as it should be.

And goodness knows what it will sound like when it opens up.

So, it is a serious competitor to the Big K brands or a Martin IZ ukulele, well worth considering if you are after an heirloom quality instrument.
