We were happy with the Baton Rouge V2-BS fretless bass ukulele when we first picked it up. It seems like the world, his dog and that dog's fleas (my dog does not have fleas!) have been making bass ukuleles over the last few months.

Baton Rouge's, however, has a very good preamp, much better than others of its breed so it does have something different going for it! Otherwise, there are no surprises at all - this model almost certainly comes from the factory that makes others from different brands.

Playing it just now, it really captured the acoustic bass vibe. Being fretless, it avoids those annoying squeaky bumpy noises you get when you spread your fingers over a fret while you're playing. For under £200 this is a cracking instrument with that little edge over competitors at the price.

It will not go into a lot of the cases on the market because of the big buttons on the machine heads. The TGI ABS Baritone hard case will work, as will the Boston Superpacker Baritone gigbag.
