Blem Kamaka HF-4D Deluxe Solid Koa Baritone Ukulele #210078
No need to explain the history and tradition of Kamaka instruments, other than to say that since 1916 they've been making seriously beautiful instruments. They're very, very good at it.
This Kamaka baritone ukulele is made from solid koa and is a superb piece of craftsmanship. It takes the HF-4 standard Kamaka baritone, and adds a beautiful rosewood binding with rope pattern purfling, soundhole rosette, Ebony fretboard and bridge, and a gloss over open pore finish.
The sound is a little tauter and brighter owing to the ebony fretboard and bridge and the gloss finish, giving the sound an extra little bit of bite, clarity and sustain up the fretboard. Tuned in traditional baritone tuning of DGBE this baritone is big and bold and beautiful in every single way.
The gloss on open pore finish can result in pits and runs, where the gloss sinks into the grain and other featurs in the wood. So, do not expect cosmetic perfection in this respect. The lack of grain filler really helps these instruments sound as clear and open as they do, so the minute cosmetic detail is sacrificed for a very good reason.
This one arrived with two small scratches (see pic) and some light polishing marks around the bridge which can only be seen in certain lights, so it is reduced by £200 accordingly.
