No need to explain the history and tradition of Kamaka instruments, other than to say that since 1916 they've been making seriously beautiful instruments. They're very, very good at it.

The Baritone 8 string stands alone really - not many manufacturers make them, but for the life of me and cannot see why! It makes a really deep, rich sound which you can easily imagine being usable in more scenarios than a Tenor 8 string. For accompanying vocals or strumming songs, its hard to imagine an easier instrument on the ears. More akin soundwise to a 12 string guitar than a Tenor 8 string ukulele, this is a very flexible instrument with less jangle than a 12 string guitar, and more body than a standard baritone, so with a wide variety of potential uses.

The tuning is the same layout as an 8 string tenor, with octave courses on the two lowest strings, and unison courses on the top two, so you have dD-Gg-BB-EE.

And even though its a Baritone, and an 8 string, the neck feels very comfy and playable in the hand - the nut width is only 38mm wide and the neck profile is very slender, so it's really easy on the fingers.

And should you ever get bored of the way it sounds or plays, just lose yourself in the depths of that beautiful Koa.....
