Ohana TK80 All Solid Port Orford Cedar/Oregon Myrtle Tenor Ukulele

Special Price £499.00 £415.83 Regular Price £529.00

In recent years, Ohana have made a splash with a run of special edition ukes made of US native woods and the TK80 tenor ukulele is the latest step in a long run of quirky limited runs.

The back and sides are made of solid Myrtle which is another Oregan native wood used often in instrument making by luthiers and famous companies like Breedlove as a substitute for rosewood/maple. Myrtle has its own thing going on; it is warm and well rounded but quite dry and transparent.

The combination of the two woods together makes for a tenor ukulele that is loud and somehow quite 'baritone like' in tone. Aesthetically speaking, it makes lovely nods to the past with maple/rosewood rope binding and simple MOP fret markers. The perfect uke for somebody that wants to do things a slightly different way!

Ohana are known for their nods towards tradition... A Californian company with a love for the Martin/Gibson style ukes of the 1920s and 30s. The thing about Ohana is that they also have this other side which is firmly rooted in the beach lifestyle and the West Coasts entrepreneurial sensibilities.

The TK80 is the perfect example of this... A modern, California style uke with an open, complex sounding Port Orford cedar top. Port Orford cedar is a Californian/Oregan native cypress wood that acts as the perfect hybrid between spruce and cedar. If you are a performer, this wood will make your dark notes darker and your sparkly notes sparklier...
