Marshall Stapleton - Long Neck Tenor Ukulele (dGBE Tuning) - Sinker Redwood/Birdseye Maple

Several months back, Marshall Stapleton popped into SUS for a catch up and left the shop with innovation on his mind. Over the years our customers have seemingly been searching for something out of reach or perhaps not quite possible until now. So... What on Earth is a Baritone neck doing on this Tenor body and what would it be suitable for?

The answer is lots of things. This instrument comes to us tuned DGBE with a reentrant High D and despite it's Baritone tuning and the lower voicing normally associated with a Baritone; it has a decidedly Tenor Ukulele sound to it. Notes ring out brightly and boldly and whether you are a strummer or a picker - this instrument makes it possible to produce an authentic brighter tone and voicing than other baritones on the market. Marshall isn't the first to do this. Some other builders have attempted this before and Kamaka for one produce an instrument in the same vein out of Koa but they sound very differently to this and they are twice the price.. We are proud to have something made right here on the south coast of England that a professional player could really utilise and expand their horizons with. Well done Marshall!

As with most of the Ukuleles we receive from Marshall the wood combination is a bit quirky but lends itself to the brighter sound we have been looking for with this Uke. The Sinker Redwood top is a lovely Dark almost Rosewood colour and who doesn't have a home in their heart for the gorgeous Birdseye Maple back and sides with matching soundhole rosette? The neck is made from reclaimed Sapaele and Marshall has decided on a Walnut fingerboard and Ebony bridge for this Uke. The finish on Marshalls Ukulele is incredibly light and the instruments do arrive and leave us with small inconsistencies in the finish and small scratches that shine up under bright light. Do not be deterred by these - Marshalls Ukuleles are made by one man in his workshop at home and a more refined perfect finish could very well double the price of the instrument and perhaps even have adverse effects on the lovely sound.
