For years we have said that the KoAloha's had sustain, tone and looks to die for... and we rightfully called them one of the best
KoAloha have recently tweaked the design slightly, moving the neck join from the 15th to the 14th fret, and the bridge further down into the bottom bout. The waist has been made more pronounced, and the bottom bout has been nicely rounded out.
The combined effect that these changes have is to improve the frequency response so that the bass is slightly crisper and tighter, and less boomy. Altogether, a very impressive move and part of the reason we inclued the KTM-00 on our list of top 10 ukuleles of the year for 2019.
The KoAloha KTM-00 has all the brightness you expect from koa, bags of volume and sustain owing to the fabulous proprietary unit brace system that the clever people at KoAloha use. It feels very light in the hand, very balanced. What you notice most when you play is the clarity of its voice. It has great note separation and a huge expressive range. These latest models feature a ebony fingerboard and a slightly smaller bridge also made of ebony.
Bear in mind that no grain filler is used on these ukes, which helps to keep the instrument sounding as good as it does. But, it can mean that you can find a few small pits in the finish, where the gloss sinks into pores, features or grain in the wood.
