No need to explain the history and tradition of Kamaka instruments, other than to say that since 1916 they've been making seriously beautiful instruments. They're very, very good at it.

You really get a sense of how well Kamaka make instruments when this one sits in your hand. Lightweight but perfectly poised, with seriously nice Koa with a light gloss finish, which is open pore - no filler is used here. And when you strum it you realise just how responsive it is - a minimal amount of effort goes a long, long way.

Like the standard concert HF-2, this is a bright and bubbly sounding ukulele but without it ever sounding harsh in any way. The trebles ping out nicely and strummed chords in the first position sound nice and full, with great note separation. But unlike the HF-2, the Koa is holographically gorgeous, with depths and complexities that your eyes could swim in.

In the hand it is very light, as all Kamaka ukulele are. The neck feels very slender and it invites playing up the neck, where you find that the intonation is as good as it gets, and that you can still get very decent volume and sustain right the way up.
Here this Ukulele below in the first video - Alex unboxes it and demonstrates it in full.
