The Kala premier exotic ukulele range was launched in January at the 2020 NAMM which seems like 20 or 30 years ago as I write this in October sat in front of the first delivery. Think of these premier exotic ukuleles as a step in the right direction for Kala who want to offer some more of the deluxe appointments featured on their comfort edge ukuleles at a more affordable price.

The KA-PX-MACA-T is a lightweight but stiff and resonant laminate macawood tenor ukulele. If you like the brighter and more springy sounding ukuleles in the Kala range like the ziricote series then you will love this. It can be mellow, it can be bold... frankly, this tenor ukulele is capable of a lot more than the price suggests.

The premier exotic ukuleles have some subtle upgrades that feel like a leap forward for Kala. They are using Graphtech Ratio tuners which are a back facing geared tuner that weighs a fraction of Kala's usual geared tuners whilst also helping to give the ukulele or more regal, traditional appearance.

The other aesthetic upgrades are the chamfered edge to keep the instrument comfier in your arms for longer and a return to rosewood for the fingerboard and bridge which many of us have been hopeful would be possible since CITES placed restrictions on importing/exporting rosewood back in 2016. With these rules relaxing; the premier exotic ukuleles really are a fantastic package.
