Kanile'a unveiled their first pineapple ukulele in 2019 and it was an absolute triumph. They used their master grade koa to make a perfectly balanced, gorgeous looking and sounding ukulele that we all desperately wanted. However, the large price tag put their flagship platinum pineapple ukulele out of reach for many players. Now however, things are looking a little different.
With all the tenor players keen to get in on the pineapple action, Kanile'a got to work. We're thrilled to be able to offer their new P-1 pineapple
Nothing rings, sings and sustains quite like a pineapple ukulele. The P-1 model is very similar to the Kanile'a K-1 and comes in various grades of koa. This is a deluxe model made of expertly assessed tonewood for its look and potential tonality.
This pineapple lets the wood do all the talking. There are minimal body inlays, fretboard details or bindings. Instead, these ukes feature the custom Kanile'a pineapple headstock logo with matching detail on the bag the instrument comes with. It has upgraded gold geared tuners that weigh nothing but somehow manage to serve this instrument extremely well. The headstock is slightly larger than a normal K-1 but balances perfectly.
The revised TRU-R bracing system inside allows the top and body of the ukulele to resonate more naturally. There is minimal contact between the braces and the top and on every one of these pineapples I have felt the deeper notes resonate against my body as I play. Kanile'a have nailed it. We're really excited to see how the tenor pineapple develops over the coming years, but the future has definitely started with the Kanile'a P-1.
