Kamaka HF-4DC Deluxe Solid Cedar/Koa Baritone Ukulele #210081
No need to explain the history and tradition of Kamaka instruments, other than to say that since 1916 they've been making seriously beautiful instruments. They're very, very good at it.
This Kamaka baritone ukulele is made from solid Cedar and Koa and is a superb piece of craftsmanship. It takes the HF-4 standard Kamaka baritone, and adds the Cedar top, with beautiful rosewood binding and rope pattern purfling, soundhole rosette, Ebony fretboard and bridge, and a gloss over open pore finish.
The Cedar top is a wonderful tone engine, which is capable of warm, rich and lustrous lows, but counterbalanced by great clarity and presence in the trebles. Ask any classical guitarist what they like about Cedar, and most of them will say that is has such an even and balanced frequency response with a full sound across the spectrum. This is evident here in spades. The dynamic range of this instrument is huge!
The gloss on open pore finish can result in pits and runs, where the gloss sinks into the grain and other featurs in the wood. So, do not expect cosmetic perfection in this respect. The lack of grain filler really helps these instruments sound as clear and open as they do, so the minute cosmetic detail is sacrificed for a very good reason.
