Kala have really upped their game recently and have been churning out some spectacular models with great spec at very reasonable prices. They've done it again with this one! Comfort edge and suchlike has become a bit of a buzzword with lots of manufacturers working towards making instruments more ergonomical, and Kala offer it here as a bevelled edge which does not dig into the players forearm when reaching over the bottom bout with the right hand. It really does work, as when you play for any length of time you notice a distinct alleviation of pressure on the forearm and a lot more blood in your hand!

But it is not just a comfort trick, this instrument - it has a full and warm, but crisp and defined sound which is due to its solid cedar and rosewood construction. Cedar gives the warmth, whilst the Pao Ferro on the back and sides helps to focus and define the sound, much like a lens, to give it that crisp edge. Like a high quality Spanish guitar it is capable of soaring highs with bags of projection, and quieter introspective moments, all the while maintaining distinct clarity across the whole expressive range.

And plugged in, it is gig ready with the industry standard Kala preamp, which does capture the character of the instrument nicely.
